Work-Life Balance: Everyone wants it….how can we achieve it?

If you take the time to think about it, everyone wants it…both a personal and professional life!  You want both but how do you balance it? If you are having difficulty juggling the demands of your job and the rest of your life, you are not alone!

There are many different reasons for wanting the work-life balance but no matter the reason….we want to be the ones in control of our personal and professional lives. No employee wants to feel as though they have to pick work over a sick loved one, miss out on an important event or even set their own health to the side however we know we also have professional responsibilities such as deadlines to meet, important events and meetings to attend within our professional lives.

In a recent study it was found that 70 % of American workers struggle to find a work-life system that works, below are a few tips to obtain a better work-life balance.

  • Build down time into your schedule, set aside time for your family, friends and important interests.
  • Make deliberate choices about what you want in life.  Drop activities that sap your time or energy.  Turn off distractions.
  • Set your own parameters around success, make sure your goals align with pursuing your passion.
  • Focus on getting your work tasks completed instead of on text messages, personal phone calls, social media, or personal tasks during work hours so that you are able to leave work on time to get to your personal interests.  If you have something such as an appointment, game or event that you would like to attend during work hours then if possible, work late one night to get further ahead on a task or complete a task to make it more likely for you to achieve the freedom to leave early the next day for your personal reasons.
